In the conversation surrounding agriculture, two key words are consistently part of the conversation: “sustainable” and “natural”. The problem with both of these words is that there is not a singular definition that everyone agrees to. This creates confusion in the already complicated sphere of agriculture. In regards to food, this is an issue of extreme importance as Americans are increasingly concerned about knowing where their food comes from and how it is produced and raised. Unclear definitions for "organic", "natural" and "sustainable" further complicate they way food is communicated to consumers.
Attached below is the Word document of my total research of four agricultural texts, being analyzed through Burke's Terministic Screens and Aristotelian appeal to pathos. The following pages of this portfolio display the four texts I analyzed: two conventional agriculture texts and two alternative agriculture texts.
